Blood DrawViews: 2038

I had my first lab work since surgery done today. I knew there would be no blood pressure taken from my arm and I knew that my arms could not pricked for blood but it never occured to me that blood would be drawn from the top of my hand. I have become accustomed to wearing a cuff around my leg for blood pressure however, I was not prepared for the excruciating pain of having blood drawn from the top of my hand. The lab tech sprayed my hand with a numbing agent that did not work very well. It was pain similar to the start of an i.v. I still have lidocaine cream to use on my port and I will definitely use that prior to any more sticks. It worked wonderfully to access my port. I never felt any pain during chemotherapy.

Now, I do get expanded once a week but the needle insertion does not bother me. It feels more like pressure than a stick.

Eventually, I will figure out how to load pictures and put one on the web. Maybe my 10 year can work on that for me.

Yikes! That sounds painful. Let me know if you need any help with uploading a photo. Have a great day. Jill

Hello there! I remember all to well the hesitant anticipation of my blood draw and or neulasta shots. However, my fabulous nurse would spray a nitrogin spray that freezes the area if I forgot my lydocain creme. Hope this helps! Blessings to you! Tari

I know having the top of your hand is painful. sorry you have to go through that. When I was in the hospital last summer I couldn’t have blood taken out of either arm. They took it out of the top of my foot three different times.. That was terrible.
